Franky Lee - Cutting Edge

For anyone expecting Millencolin guitarist Mathia Farm’s side-project to be sub 3-minute pop punk gems will probably be in for a shock when they hear Franky Lee. A Foo Fighters/Samiam-esque rocker, this is a surprisingly good 13-track album that should appeal to more than just the obligatory interested Millencolin fans checking out what the band’s axeman has been up to.

Opener ‘Solitary’ sets a highly impressive tone for the record, a rock and roll stomper which, on first listen, is a little too un-Millencolin like for those of us who remember the band for their ‘Fox’ days. But when you consider Nikola has already tried something different too, I guess it’s inevitable that a band who have been around as long as Millencolin have that their members would like to try something different. The Afghan Wigs thumping ‘Angles’ shows the band’s rock influence is worn firmly on sleeve, while ‘Your Complexion’ and ‘Cold Eyes’ are solid efforts too.

While I guess many people will check out Franky Lee for the inevitable reason, this record is good enough to warrant a listen in its own right. It’s not an early contender for album of the year, but in a slow month for new releases, ‘Cutting Edge’ is well worth your time.

The summer is here!

Aloha dudes and dudettes! Here’s the latest news from the B-M HQ. The highly acclaimed new album, Machine 15, by Millencolin has now been released in the EU, the US and in Australia. Japan release is set for May 21st and releasedate for Southamerica will be revealed in a near future. Summer festivals are in the works, see tourdates for all confirmed shows as for now. More dates will follow. Path Of No Return, the Swedish PM’s have a couple of really cool festivals confirmed,

 

 or how does Metaltown and Roskilde Festival among others sound? Don’t miss the pit as we say in Sweden. All time R’N’R heroes, yes, The Accidents also has a cool streak of festivals this summer. I guess D.Vacuum and Co will kick the asses of In Flames and others at the “With Full Force” festival, I’m sure it will be quite spectacular so don’t miss out on that. Millencolin kickar igång sin EU turné i Örebro!

Nu är det klart: Det blir en konsert i hemstaden Örebro för albumaktuella Millencolin. Den 12:e April spelar man på Conventum , och detta är också Europapremiären för Millencolins “Machine 15 World Tour”.

Senast Millencolin spelade i Örebro var 2005, även då på conventum. Konserten var utsåld till sista plats, och Conventum’s nöjesansvarige Fredrik Johansson förväntar sig lapp på luckan även denna gång. -Millencolin är alltid Millencolin, och det här kommer definitivt att vara en av årets konserter när vi summerar 2008.

 -Det känns svinkul att göra en stor konsert för Örebropubliken igen, säger Millencolin. Vi har ju gjort en del konserter under åren, men det är alltid något speciellt att spela på hemmaplan och vi valde därför att lägga turnépremiären i Örebro! Konserten är förövrigt den enda chansen att se Millencolin live i Sverige innan sommarens festivaler. Millencolins nya album “Machine 15″ släpps bara några dagar tidigare, nämligen Onsdagen den 9:e April.

2008 will bring you all some great stuff from the Big Mouth HQ. First off is The Accidents, they’ll do a full Scandinavian tour together with Asta Kask and The Lost Patrol Band. The almighty Raised Fist will do an appearence at the Bandit Music Awards, don’t forget to vote at www.bandit.se. There are also some talk about Scandinavian and EU dates later on this spring. Path Of No Return will keep on rocking and they will follow up the EU tour with Nine with some Soumi shows, once again with Nine. After that they’ll hit EU for some shows in March. Last but not least the Millencolin dudes will release their new album, dates are set for March and April. Finally!!!Raised Fist will finally make it to Canada! Third time lucky they say and for the Canadians it’s true. After broken ribs and Australian viruses the band is now ready to once again fly over the pond to Canadian soil. The “Killing It Tour” will hit 14 cities in two weeks and you can expect a full blown chaos each night. A Nortamerican tour is in the works, yes it’s true. Finally the band will do shows in the US, Canada, the bands second home, will also be included. Keep your eyes open for tourdates. Early 2008 a new Scandinavian tour is beeing planned to follow up the totally sold-out tour the band did in 2007. A DVD is beeing planned, more news about this project will follow soon.

Kid Down news!

At the moment, The Kid Down guys are warming up for the upcoming European tour in October. During a three week period with shows every day, they will show their ugly, pale, Swedish faces in countries like the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Italy! Their debut album “And the noble art of irony” is scheduled for a release on September 12 in Japan, and we are all doing our best in getting them over there to charm the japanese girls!The band has also recorded five unplugged songs from the album, that together with a fresh full-band tune will team up on a Digital EP later this fall.Hopefully this will be done in December when Kid Down are headlining a two-week package tour in Scandinavia. Other bands are Chemical Vocation and Adept. With these happenings we are really looking forward to see what happens when Kid Down are conquering Europe with their catchy Punk Rock/Emo…
